Have a Blessed Christmas!

Its Christmas Eve, and as I sit here reflecting on my life, I realize how very blessed I am.  I have a family I love, who loves me back.  We’re fortunate to be able to spend time together this Christmas and enjoy each other’s company.  We have family we can’t be with this year, and to them I send out our love and our hopes to see each other soon … but know that you are in our thoughts and hearts.

I’m taking some time off to spend with family, so any business-related emails or phone calls will be returned as of January 5th.

Merry Christmas and may you have a blessed New Year too!

A Precious Newborn – 12 Days Old

Remember this lovely mama?  I so enjoyed working with her and was so excited when she emailed me to say the baby was here!  Sweet Jaxon didn’t want to sleep most of the time, and when he did it was for short periods of time.  That’s ok, I’m patient … and I think these were more than worth the wait … how about you?

This is one of my favorites … sigh … so sweet. :)

They make such a sweet, beautiful family.

Is there anything sweeter than a daddy sharing a moment with his son?

Merry Christmas … I can’t imagine a better Christmas present.

A New Web Site Has Launched!

At long last I have finally updated all of my galleries with more current work!!  I know, I know, I’m so bad.  I hadn’t updated galleries on my main site since oh, FEBRUARY!  I also have launched a brand new site with a whole new look and feel.  So be sure to pop over and take a look … and let me know what you think.  :)   And coming soon … a whole separate site for my hs senior work.

Another thing you’ll find on the new website … my 2009 a la carte pricing, effective with sessions booked January 1, 2009 and beyond.  Any sessions that were held prior to year-end are still eligible for 2008 pricing.  As a bonus, if you need any additional prints or products from an earlier session, I will honor 2008 pricing until February 15, 2009.  Merry Christmas. :)

Here’s a quick screen capture of the new site … to entice you over to take a look!

Bare Feet? or BEAR Feet?

October and November are the busy season for most portrait photographers, and this year has kept me on my toes to say the least.  I’ve been so crazy-busy lately that I am way behind in blogging about my own munchkins.  And believe me, I’ve been hearing about it from my mom, my husband, and even my brother!!  I’m almost embarssed to admit this series of photos I took back in … um … JULY.  I am so far behind in editing my personal photos its just sad.

Anyway.  The story that goes along with these photos is too cute not to pass on.  Anna and I were getting ready to go somewhere or other one day, and I was hurrying her along to finish getting dressed.  She came in and our conversation went something like this:

Anna:  Mommy, can I wear my bare feet?

Me:  No, sweetie, you can’t go barefoot you have to wear shoes.

A few minutes later …

Anna:  Mommy, please can I wear my bare feet?

Me:  Anna, you have to wear shoes.  If you go barefoot you might step on something and hurt your foot.

Anna finally gets her shoes on, we do our errands, and I’ve forgotte all about the conversation.  Later we get home and she asks me:

Anna: Mommy, now can I wear my bare feet?

Me: Sure sweetie, you can take your shoes off and go barefoot now.

A few minutes later she comes running in with her BEAR SLIPPERS on …

Anna:  See my bear feet mommy?  I LOVE my bear feet!

And needless to say a photo was called for …

An Adorable Newborn: 18 days old (part 2)

We lucked out and had sunshine!  Well, at least more than we did with the first part of this little guy’s newborn session.  He still didn’t want to fall into a deep sleep for me, but we managed to get him sleepy enough to finish his pictures.

His mom was really hoping we could use my antique scale.

I got exactly five shots before he woke up crying.  But one was all I needed. ;)

A sweet mother & son moment, while trying to coax him back to sleep . . .

And a classic . . .

An Adorable Newborn: 13 days old

I am so going to be in trouble with my husband, if I keep doing newborn sessions.  This little sweetie from Sunday was too adorable and I just wanted to bundle him up and slip him out the door with me when I left.  I just have to keep repeating:  our family of four is complete … our family of four is complete … our family of four is complete …

This little guy’s mom and dad were so relaxed and easy going, especially for first time parents.  They took everything in stride.  Gotta love that. :)

We had some bleary overcast weather that kept us from getting much light, and this little peanut didn’t want to sleep despite some of my best tricks.  Still, he was sweet as can be!  We decided to call it a day and get a few more shots later this week.  Crossing my fingers for some sunshine!

Here’s a quick sneak peek … I’m pretty excited at what we did capture!

This is the one shot his mom and dad really wanted to get … its such a classic!

Look at that scrunched up face and those tiny fingers … sigh …

Once this little peanut was awake, he gave me a whole lot of this beautiful eye contact.  He was so alert!

MIA

Ok, Ok, this blog has been seriously neglected in the last two weeks.  I’ve been so busy trying to get sessions edited, orders placed, etc. that I haven’t updated here in a while.  Sorry about that.  As the busy season winds down, I will do better. :)

As you know, I always post a few of my favorite shots from each session when I feature them on my blog.  Coming soon:  Some clients’ favorite shots and why they mean so much to them.

Single Parents: I Stand in Awe

Seriously.  The title says it all.  I have no idea how single parents do this every day.  Elliot doesn’t travel a whole lot, but he has been gone all this week.  Normally it wouldn’t be that big of a deal.  But Sarah has been sick since last Thursday and doesn’t show any signs of getting better.  She’s had a high fever for almost a week now.  Motrin brings it down when it gets too high, but then it spikes up in the afternoon/evenings.  At first our pediatrician thought this was part of that four-day crud that’s going around (she has very similar symptoms), but if that was the case the fever should be getting better by now and its not.  She started antibiotics this morning so hopefully she can kick whatever this is.  And she has a nasty, congested cough (its not in her chest, no pneumonia or bronchitis) and feels really rotten.  She’s missed school since last Friday and she’s still got a fever so she won’t be going back tomorrow either.

And if that’s not enough Anna started out with two small little bumps between her neck and shoulder that looked like something bit her.  I first noticed it last Thursday and by the weekend it looked infected, so she got to visit the doctor, too.  She has impetigo and needed antibiotics.  When it rains, it pours.

All of that to say I have the utmost respect for single parents who have to handle all of this by themselves.  And it reminds me to thank my husband for all that he does.  :)

Fall Color … Just Under the Wire

This weekend I had one last fall session to take advantage of the beautiful color in the mountains.  This family really wanted to have gorgeous fall foliage as part of their family photos.  We all had our fingers (and our toes) crossed when it rained towards the end of the week.  And while a lot of the leaves had already dropped, there was still enough color to make for a stunning backdrop.  I know I say this every time, but this family was so nice and such fun to be with.  I really am so lucky to find such wonderful clients!  Both of these kids were adorable (ok, so the 12 year old might take exception to the word adorable… how about handsome for him?), well-mannered, and super sweet.

Enjoy your preview, Susan, and thanks for making the trek with me on Saturday.

This was one of the last images of the day, before the park official closed down for the day.  Look how warm and golden the light was … my favorite kind.  This is one of my favorites from the day.

Check out these two hams!  They thought it was hilarious when I told them to look at each other. :)

Just try to tell me this one isn’t going to be a heart-breaker as he grows up!

This is what I got when I told her to give me some sass … I think she’s got it figured out!

My Little Computer Geek

A few months ago Anna discovered the computer.  Now I can’t get her off it.  Seriously.  She would play computer ALL DAY if I let her.  Her favorites are playhousedisney.com, nickjr.com, and pollypocket.com.  I really need to find her some educational games to play so at least she’s being semi-productive.  We used to have some games for when Sarah was this age, but none of them play right on our Macs.  Hm.  Santa may need to bring some this year.  :)   Sarah has always loved the computer too, but not to the extent Anna does.  We’ve found that taking away her computer privelage as a consequence is a great motivator!

Spotlight: Coffee Table Books

Its time for a new product, don’tcha think?  I’ve had coffee table books available for some time, but I’ve never really marketed them much.  I think for something to have sales appeal you need to be able to SEE it before buying it.  I believe strongly in having samples so that clients can see what my product offerings look like.  And I’ve not had a coffee table book sample available to show … until now.  I filled my sample full of client images, and it is GORGEOUS.  Can I just say, I WANT ONE for myself, full of images of my own kids. :)

My sample is a 10×10 book with a canvas image cover, 20 pages.  The pages are super thick and sturdy.  The color is breathtaking.  I love how I can create full, double-page spreads.  Did I mention that I WANT ONE for myself?!

If you want one you’re welcome to order one with a new session or with a previous session’s images.  :)

Fall Colors and a Fun Family

I’ve been dying to photograph this family ever since I met them.  Can you blame me?  Those eyes!  And the older brother has the most gorgeous curly red hair.  Sigh.  I knew they would not disappoint … and they didn’t.  The boys definitely made me work for it … one was tired and the other was a total ham.  I enjoyed spending time with all of them, they clearly have a lot of love for each other, and know how to laugh and play together.  And what a great sport Dad was, to do family photos on his birthday!

Yep, that’s pure mischief you see sparkling in those eyes.

Some brotherly love.

See what I mean … they definitely know how to have fun together.

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas …

That’s a line from one of my favorite Christmas carols, and I think it fits for this family.  Does the little guy have on the most adorable Christmas sweater?  And all the red and black really go well together.  This mini session had me singing Christmas carols in my head and thinking about decking the halls.  You may remember this fabulous family from earlier this year when we did their family session.  I was so excited that they wanted to be a part of my mini sessions to get their Christmas card images.  These are two of the sweetest kids you’ll meet and I love working with the whole family!

I love how the red and black pop against the brick and the fountain. :)

Look at those sweet grins!

More Mini Sneak Peeks

Last year this family was among my first clients while I was building up my portfolio.  I enjoyed them then and I enjoyed them every bit as much this time around.  I was thrilled when they wanted to participate in my holiday mini sessions this year.  This is one of the sweetest families I’ve worked with ever!  Their kiddos are so adorable and such fun to photograph.  I had jelly beans for bribery and it worked like a charm. :)

Check out what a great job Mom did coordinating their outfits!  Love the blue and pink together.

I took this one at the beginning of the session.  I couldn’t resist how pretty the sunlight was shining in her hair.

Check out those eyes … this little guy is going to be a heartbreaker some day … bet on it!
