With the start of a new year, I thought this was a good time to reflect back a bit. This is the first post in a series of 5.
I generally post at least a few sneak peeks with every client session. I do this for a few reasons. One to give my clients a sneak preview of their session images — it keeps the excitement going and builds anticipation. And two, it gives me a chance to share my recent work with my blog readers, current clients, and potential new ones. With these sneak peeks you always get MY perspective. I choose the images that jump out at me right away when I go through them initially. Sometimes those turn out to be my favorites once I get them all edited, other times they don’t. But in every case you’re getting my thoughts.
So. I thought it would be fun to turn the tables, and give you a glimpse at which images were clients’ favorites as well as a few thoughts about why those images spoke to them. Sometimes my favorites are their favorites … and sometimes they’re completely different. I just LOVE seeing which images are everyones’ favorites!
This little cutie below was my very first “official” client. He was sweet and shy, and it took a little work to bring him out of his shell. When he warmed up to me, we had such fun, and the end result was worth every minute.
In his momma’s own words:
“There were so many great photos that came out of that session, it’s challenging to pick favorites. If I had to choose, though, here they are:
The photo of Ian on his bicycle – I love how it captures the pensive look on his face – because even though he is a “little boy” engaging in a “little boy” activity (riding a bike), he is often quite serious, and it’s tough to catch him in one of his “deep thinker” moments.”

“The b/w photo of Ian kissing my belly when I was 6 1/2 months pregnant. The gesture is so sweet and innocent – he doesn’t really understand what he’s being told about what’s growing in Mommy’s belly, but he knows it’s something really special – and he really became protective of Mommy and her belly the bigger it became. While the photo seems to be of a simple gesture, it’s truly a glimpse of the sensitive child Ian really is.”

“Finally, the close-up of Ian’s face just bowls me over. Those big brown eyes! Those fabulous eyelashes (from his dad, of course…)! The lopsided haircut that only a mother could love (although I HATED it and almost postponed the session because of it…)! That little picture of him with his delicate skin and gap-toothed smile just embodies for me the sheer joy that is Ian.”
“Thank you so much, Marla, for capturing Ian’s sweet two-year-old self in such a beautiful way. Your photos show him exactly as I remember him at that time… a perfect gift from God!“
