Sarah | 2010 Senior

Yesterday while I melted in this sweltering heat we’re having, the unflappable Ms. Sarah managed to look cool and confident the entire time.  I dragged here to a number of my favorite urban spots, and we discovered a couple of new ones, too.  Sarah brought along her sister and a couple of friends for moral support … and a bit of comic relief.  Sarah is going to be another of my oh-so-amazing senior reps for 2010.  She brought gorgeous clothes and looked fabulous in each outfit.  Thanks for hanging with me yesterday, Sarah … enjoy your sneak peek!  You can find these on Facebook in just a bit, and I’ll add them to MySpace for you too.

LOVING all the black iron work with Sarah’s gorgeous dress.  I think this is one of my early faves. :)

Thanks to Sarah’s sister Katie for helping out with reflector duty on this one!

Is this graffiti wall not the coolest spot?!

No session is complete without a few close-up shots, and I love how this one shows off Sarah’s stunning eyes.

And while Sarah was off changing, I got this shot of her sister Katie, and friends Chandler and Preston (see, I got your names right this time!).  What a great group! :)

Best Friends

For Christmas Sarah gave her two best friends a gift.  Their very own photo session for three.  They’d been asking me for a long time to do pictures with them.  And they wanted it on one of my backdrops.  It took a while to get around to it, but Memorial Day weekend they finally had their ever-so-girly, ultra-giggly, very own photo shoot.  Each girl brought around a pile of clothes, which we layed across Sarah’s bed and poured through making our choices.  Their excitement was contagious and I was as eager as they were.  I captured sass, I captured grins, I captured laughter, I captured goofiness, I captured FRIENDSHIP.  Anyone who has girls or has ever been a girl can tell you … three of them don’t always play well together.  Someone tends to get left out or ganged up on.  And these three are no exception.  But they had a fabulous time, loved the attention, and clearly they love each other.

So here’s your extended sneak peek girls!  I promise it won’t be next Christmas before the rest are done!  And yes, as requested, you will get your very own slideshow, just like my clients.  :)

Nashville | Around Town

Ok, so I’m a couple of days late with the second part of my Nashville post.  I’m such a bad blogger!

Anyway.  We spent one whole day shooting around Franklin, the gorgeous historic old churches and buildings, and we also found a little overgrown field by the side of the road for some macro shooting.  I even learned to love my tripod!  Ok, so love might be a bit strong. ;)   Anyway, thanks to Anna, the Queen of Macro for the helpful tips.  Then we spent another day shooting all around downtown Nashville, plus Hailey’s shoot at the hotel and at the carnival, then another half day of macro at a pretty little park.  I’ve got TONS of editing to catch up on.

Just a few quick scheduling notes:

  • I will be out of the office June 26-July 7 for vacation.  I will have very limited email/cell access during this time.
  • June sessions are booked and July has one spot left.
  • 2010 Seniors, book your session by the end of June (to be completed by 10/31/09) and receive half off the session fee ($75 savings).

Nashville Model

A couple of weekends ago I made a trip up to Nashville to  meet up with some photographer friends.  We had such a great time, and it was so fun having a big bag of lenses to choose from to shoot.  One of my fellow photogs arranged for a model for us to shoot while we were there and can I just say how adorable, not to mention super sweet and enthusiastic she was?!  Hailey was a real pro and even took the time to make sure we all got the shots we were after.

Here are the first few I’ve edited so far.  I’ve got loads more to go through so you’ll be seeing more of the ever-so-fabulous Ms. Hailey.  And stay tuned tomorrow and I’ll be posting some macro shots and some urban shots from downtown Nashville. Three full days of shooting … need I tell you how much editing I have?!

It was almost impossible to get a serious look out of Hailey, she’s got such an amazing and ready smile.

We happened upon a little carnival set up at the local shopping mall, and the lighting was just perfection.   With four photographers surrounding her, everyone thought Hailey must be someone famous!  So we let them think so. ;)

Is this not the coolest spot for a photo shoot?  We stayed at the ultra-trendy and modern aLoft hotel in Franklin.  As soon as we walked in the door we knew it was perfect for some photos.

A little wide-angle play to show off the surroundings.

My Shiny New Senior Web Site

Ok, so I said I was going to do some kind of promotion leading up to the debut of my all new seniors web site.  Um.  I lied.  Sorry.  I finished the site last night and I decided I couldn’t wait so it’s live … NOW.  I know, I know, patience is not one of my virtues.  So … what are you waiting for?!  Go check it out!!!  You can get to it from the main splash page, which has also been updated with a new look, BTW.

Here’s a little sneaky-peaky of both the splash page and the new senior site.  So go already, have a look. :)

Oh, and don’t think I have forgotten my babies/kids/families site … be sure to check it out in the next few days as I’ll be adding some recent work to it, too.

Starbucks Gift Card Winner

Thanks to all of you who commented, emailed, called, etc. for the Starbucks gift card giveaway.  If you haven’t already … GO BY AND SEE IT!!  When I get a chance to get back by there I’ll take some pictures of the display and post them for my out of town readers.  I actually forgot my camera when I went to put up the display … can’t you believe it?!

I’m almost finished with the new senior site.  Its seriously very close to being done now.  Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean I’m no longer photographing babies, kids, and families!  I have just decided to separate out the kid/family work from the senior/teen work so that they each have their own look and feel.  You’ll be able to get to both sites as well as this blog from the main splash page as usual (www.marlalaramie.com).  When I’m ready to debut the new senior site I’ll do some kind of contest to promote it.  Any suggestions for what kind of contest you’d like to see?  Feel free to leave a comment or email me (info@marlalaramie.com).

I assigned a number to all of the comments from the blog and from Facebook, put the number range into random.org and this is what I came up with for the winning number:

And the #14 comment was from Ashly … so enjoy some Starbucks, my treat!  I’ll mail you the gift card in the next few days.  Enjoy!!

Wide Angle Fun

I recently rented a super-fun wide angle lens, the 16-35L.  I’ve been dying to try out something wide and see what kind of fun distotion I could get.  I’ve got a bunch that I took a up in Nashville recently with some photographer friends of mine, but you might know I haven’t edited any yet!  I did edit these few that I took of Anna.  Not the greatest shots, but still kinda fun to see what a wide angle can do.  Check out that head!

Also, thanks to all that participated here and on Facebook as part of my Starbucks gift card giveaway.  I’ll go through all of them and randomly draw a winner, and post the results tomorrow.
