A Poll | Which Do You Prefer?

Lately I’ve been playing around with a new way of doing client slideshows, specifically for senior sessions.  This new app does slideshows in a completley different way that I think is really fun.  However the images display smaller and I’m not as happy with the quality/sharpness of the images.  So I thought I’d get some opinions.  I’ve just put together a senior slideshow in both applications.  So take a look, tell me which you prefer and why.

Kellyn | 2010 Senior

So far all of my 2010 seniors (so have previous years’ for that matter!) have been so much fun to photograph.  And they have all been easy to work with, too.  But Kellyn gets props for having the most to deal with!  We met on Tuesday afternoon, I got all of my gear out of the car and started getting set up to shoot.  Imagine my embarassment when I took my camera out of my bag and realized … I LEFT THE BATTERY AT HOME.  I’d been charging the battery earlier in the day and completely forgot to put it back in the camera.  I was MORTIFIED.  But Kellyn just rolled with it and said no big deal while we waited for my sainted (ha!) husband to bring it out to downtown Huntsville for us.  He gets props, too, for helping me out (despite a small amount of grumbling).

Next crisis … shortly after we got started shooting it started pouring down rain.  Luckily no thunder/lighting, so we waited it out — again Kellyn was completely unphased.  Then as the rain let up a bit we made the best of it with some shots in what was left of the rain with her umbrella.  As if all of that wasn’t enough, all the delays meant we had a very limited amount of light left for the rest of our session.  We made the best of it and still got some FABULOUS shots.  I’m sure that was in huge part to Kellyn’s positive attitude (and her mom’s too!).  We had to cut things short when we ran out of light, so I promised Kellyn we’d finish up soon with another 45 minutes or so.

Enjoy your sneak peek, Kellyn!

Doesn’t she have a fabulous smile?! :) kellyn_mahesh_07-2009_126b

Rain, rain, go away … but hey we’ve got an umbrella!

kellyn_01

Is that an awesome coat or what?!  Kellyn had such fun outfits.

Stunning girl, stunning dress.  Enough said. :)

And now for a little business stuff.

  • July is crazy-booked.
  • August is almost fully booked, I could maybe squeeze in one or two more towards the end of the month.
  • September is still pretty open.
  • October has a few spots left.

I’ll be out of town Tuesday-Saturday next week.  Emails/calls during that time will be returned early the week of August 2nd.

And a note to my brother:  I hear ya!  Pics of your neices coming soon.  Probably before Christmas. ;)   Maybe.

Lindsey | 2010 Senior

Whenever I schedule a senior session (or any session for that matter) I always ask my clients if they already have a location in mind.  When I talked to Lindsey about her senior portraits I mentioned some of my favorite spots and also that we could do something different like downtown Birmingham or Nashville.  Nashville turned out to be a perfect fit for Lindsey, who wanted to go somewhere different.  During her session her mom also told me that Nashville is one of their favorite places and they’ve spent lots of time there over the years.   Needless to say I was definitely up for the roadtrip!

I did a little location scouting downtown before I met with Lindsey, and I knew the biggest problem I had would be fitting in all the spots I wanted to use.  :)   We found some great alleys, including the infamous Printer’s Alley, plus I knew in front of the Union Station Hotel would be perfect.  I’d planned to end our session at Centennial Park, at the Parthenon … but since I managed to get us lost we had run out of light by the time I got us there! Fortunately we still had tons of variety without the Parthenon.

Printer’s Alley - wasn’t it nice of them to paint the wall red to match Lindsey’s gorgeous dress?!

Posing Lindsey was pretty much effortless, she knew just what to do. :)

Stunning, isn’t she?!

One of my favorites, so far.

I saw this amazing mural earlier in the day when I was out scouting.  I just knew we had to get some shots here.

Lindsey brought a fabulous selection of clothes with her … and she looked great in every outfit!

While we were shooting in this alley, Lindsey found herself an admirer!  This biker guy just plopped himself down in the shot and made himself right at home!

Emily | 2010 Senior

Remember Chandler and his absolutely adorable girlfriend Emily from couple of posts back?  Well Emily had her own session a few days ago.  She mentioned in her senior questionnaire that she is a big Taylor Swift fan, so I knew we’d hit it off. :)   I really enjoyed getting a chance to focus on Emily this time around.  Emily is a cheerleader, and it really shows through in her friendly personality.  I’ll keep this post short tonight so I can get these posted.  Thanks for waiting so patiently, Emily!

Striking eyes, no?

Emily is equally beautiful with her serious look and with her lovely smile. :)

Audrey | 2010 Senior

Audrey is the latest of another fabulous senior that I’ve photographed lately.  She also happens to be adored by my two girls, who love when she comes to babysit!  It was yet another hot and steamy afternoon for Audrey’s session but she dealt with it like a total pro.  She even had to contend with the mosquitos that kept attacking her and still had a ready smile.  She’s beautiful, polished, and sweet as can be.  Did I mention what a great group of seniors I’ve had so far for 2010?!  Audrey brought along her older sister, Joni –who is also beloved by my girls and tag-team babysits with Audrey.  Joni acted as my assistant and did a fantastic job, I might add.  Thanks again to both of you, I had a blast!

I was love, love, loving the light in this spot and how the sun was hitting her hair.

And of course I can never resist a chance to capture a little sunflare!

audrey_02

I love the softness of this one, and her sweet, thoughtful expression.

A little flirty fun!

audrey_03

Does she have the most stunning eyes, or what?!

audrey_mcsorley_07-2009_435_bwb

And how could I resist a chance to get some shots with equally gorgeous big sis?!  They reminded me of my girls, who are also as different looking as day and night. :)

Chandler | 2010 Senior

Many of the senior guys I photograph aren’t big on smiling … they seem to feel more comfortable with their SERIOUS look on. What was fun about working with Chandler is that he has a natural smile that looks great as well. And he has an off-beat sense of humor that kept me laughing throughout his session. Chandler is another one of my fabulous 2010 senior spokesmodels. Thanks, Chandler for hanging in there. You did fantastic!!

I couldn’t decide between color and b/w!  You can see the color version on Facebook.

chandler_jones_07-2009_390_bwb

Chandler asked if he could bring his girlfriend Emily along and get a few shots together … and of course I said YES!  Bringing a friend or a boyfriend/girlfriend to the session always makes things more fun. :)

chandler_jones_07-2009_143b

Don’t they make a stunning couple?!

When I saw this old-fashioned fire truck display I knew it would be perfect.  Why?  Because Chandler works as a volunteer fire fighter.  Check out the reflection in the glass.

And remember how I said July was slam-packed with senior sessions?  Well check back in another day or two for the first of several  gorgeous senior girls!

Emily | 19 Days

I met Robin and her wonderful family back in February of last year for her little boy’s 18 month pictures, and again for his 2 year session last summer.  I was beyond thrilled when she contacted me earlier this year to tell me she would soon have a newborn little girl for me to photograph.  I have loved every minute of working with this warm, friendly family, and this new little addition did not disappoint!   Due to her dealing with jaunice in her early days and then me being away on vacation we had to postpone little Em’s session … but I have to say she was worth the wait. :)   And be sure to check back in a few weeks for big brother’s three year pics.  I can’t wait to see how he’s grown.  There’s just nothing better than watching my young clients grow.

This little sweetie was so easy to pose, she just slept right through it. :)

It took a little doing, but check out that eye contact!  And doesn’t she has the most beautiful big blue eyes?!

I’m Baaaaaaack (Day Three)

I’m baaaaack!  Did ya miss me?  Lie to me and tell me you did. ;)

I’m starting with Day Three because … well, Days One and Two were spent in the car.  Driving.  Riding.  For Way. Too. Long.

I’ve got TONS and TONS of pics to go through from our trip to South Dakota.  The girls were in HEAVEN being spoiled by their grandparents.  We had an amazing trip, did a bunch of fishing (ok, so I lounged on teh dock with a book and Sarah climbed rocks) saw loads of wildlife, visited a water park (my children are fearless, let me tell you), did all kinds of other touristy fun stuff, and even snuck in a bit of R&R while we were at it.  And, I even lugged my tripod up the mountain (ok, so I made Elliot lug it) and set it up on the self timer for a couple of shots of the four of us.

Sarah was dying to see Mt. Rushmore, so our first full day in SD we headed up there to see the four presidents’ heads carved into the mountain.  She was very impressed and beyond excited about it.  Afterwards we headed over to the town of Keystone to explore the little shops (less impressive to me than to Sarah and Anna!) and have an ice cream cone.  The girls found this hilarious cutout of the presidents heads to pose with!

Believe me, I have more silliness where that came from.   And more trip details to follow.  Eventually.

For now, here’s that silly shot.

keystone_039w

Ok, on to a few business details.  If you’ve called or emailed in the last two weeks I’m not ignoring you … I’m slowly catching up and returning calls/emails.  I promise, I’ll get through them all soon.  Also, July is jam packed with senior sessions, so stay tuned for a slew of sneak peeks this month.  And August is shaping up to be just as crazy … look for more seniors and a sprinkling of adorable kiddos.  So if you’re looking for a session in August don’t wait to schedule, I’ve only got a few openings left.  September is pretty open and October still has quite a few openings.

And yeah, its July and its HOT, but its not to early start thinking about getting on the schedule if you want holiday pics.  I recommend you schedule those sessions for September/October/November so that there’s enough time to get everything edited and back for the lab in time to mail out your holiday cards.  Last year I had two days of holiday minis, but this year I don’t think I’m going to do those unless the demand is there.  So let me know if that’s your preference.
