Friday Flashbacks

Welcome to Friday Flashbacks, a brand new feature on the blog.  What the heck are Friday Flashbacks?  To recap:

Every Friday I’ll be posting an image from a past session.  I won’t be revealing names or notifying you that your image was featured.  These posts will be clearly marked with Friday Flashbacks in the title so as not to confuse them with regular blog postings.  So if you see yourself in the Friday Flashback feature shoot me a quick email and you’ll earn a complimentary 8×10 of the image as well as a gift certificate for $50 that you can use towards a future session.  You can even pass your gift certificate on to a friend (but remember I shoot primarily older kiddos, tweens, teens, seniors and young adults).  Once you spot your image, you have until the following Friday at midnight to notify me and qualify.  Friday Flashback features will be posted both here on the blog and on the Marla Laramie Photography Facebook page.  Click the LIKE button on the page to make sure you get the Facebook page feed automatically. :)

So what happens if I don’t post a Friday Flashback?  The first person to email me and (nicely!) remind me I’ve forgotten, earns a $50 gift certificate good towards a session.  Sorry but this one can’t be passed on to a friend, and is only good for 30 days.  Also you can only earn this gift certificate once in 2010.

Now for a few rules.  You can only redeem one certificate per session.  You have one year from the time the Friday Flashback feature appears on the Blog to use it, and it can only be used for a session with kids ages 7 to young adult (with the exception being a past client).  Certificates have no cash value and may not be traded or sold.

How can you not love those beautiful brown eyes?!

Who’s Your Favorite 2011 Spokesmodel? | Vote

So it took me more than ten days (HA!) but all 10 2011 Senior Spokesmodels have now been featured.  You’ve seen their favorite images from their spring mini sessions, you’ve seen their favorite images from other senior sessions, and you’ve gotten to know a little about them.  Now its time to vote for your favorite!  First let me say that they are ALL fabulous … each one is beautiful inside and out.  So no way am I voting!!!  ;)

So how do you vote?
View the 2011 Senior Spokesmodels below (each image is numbered) and choose your favorite.  You can leave me a comment (with the image number) in the comments section here on the blog, or you can email me your vote (info@marlalaramie.com), or you can vote by leaving a comment on the group shot on my Facebook page. I’ve included a link back to each girl’s blog feature so you can find out more about them if you missed it originally.

When do you vote?
Starting NOW, voting ends at MIDNIGHT on FRIDAY, August 8th Sunday, August 10th — extended because I forgot to send out a reminder notice. :o

Who can vote?
Anyone!

Restrictions?
Just play fair, please (Golden Rule and all that).  Its up to my personal discretion if I think someone isn’t playing fair in soliciting votes. :)

Remember the Spokesmodel who receives the most votes will win a special prize (its a secret!).  And as an added incentive to vote, I will randomly draw one voter’s name for a Starbucks gift card.

Favorite Fam | Madison Family Photographer

On Thursday I finally got the chance to photograph the kids of one of my favorite people on earth.  She’s that close friend who is always there for me and my family.  You know, the one you can talk to about anything and everything … and nothing.  For hours.  So when she asked me to take pictures of her kids, I was thrilled.  So we headed up to one of favorite nature spots, fought the heat and the bugs, and struggled to get enough good light.  And it was worth it.  :)    And I so enjoyed spending time with this wonderful family.  Oh and by the way, tell Jon to get ready for part two!!

Marissa | 2011 Senior

I was super excited about Marissa’s session, especially knowing she was making a two hour drive to get here.  It was touch and go all day due to the crazy weather we had that day.  First the weather forecast predicted storms for later that night, well after our session.  But we were having these awful high temps with a heat advisory and a heat index of 105+.  Then of course the sky darkened and the thunder started.  And the bottom fell out.  It seriously POURED.  Marissa’s aunt called from the road to tell me about the monsoon they’d just driven through on their way.  But we lucked out and the rain stopped in Huntsville literally just in time for our session.  And the best part?  The rain cooled everything down and gave us a nice cool breeze.  We so lucked out.  :) And it was worth it.  I had a blast, Marissa, and I think we captures some fabulous images.

On to the first Friday Flashbacks Feature (say that five times fast, HA!).  Because I just could not choose from among so many awesome senior sessions … I closed my eyes and randomly chose a name from my computer files! Here’s a favorite from the fall of 2009.  This session was in the morning and I loved seeing how different the light was in one of my favorite grungy alleys.  I shoot so often in the evening that this session was a great reminder how beautiful morning light can be, too.

Ashleigh | 2011 Senior

Just a quick note first:  I lied.  Senior Spokesmodel features will continue on Tuesday because I wanted to make sure I got this very special session blogged.  :)

This session was a milestone for Ashleigh, she’ll be a senior this year.  But this session was a milestone for me, too.  It marks the first time I’ve photographed a senior whose MOM I was a senior with … way back when.  Yep, I’m officially old.  Ashleigh’s mom and I grew up together.  We lost touch after high school but recently re-connected on Facebook.  So I was beyond thrilled when Kristy asked me to photograph Ashleigh’s senior pictures.  And let me just say, she is every bit as sweet and lovely as her mama.

It was so much fun, meeting them downtown … in my hometown of all places, for her session.  Then we headed out to the barn where Ashleigh rides horses.  Ashleigh is such a natural with horses after many years of competition events and riding.  There’s something very special about the connection between a girl and the horses she loves.  It was so sweet to see how jealous the other horses were when she was paying attention to another!  But never fear, they each got a bit of love when all was said and done. :)

Friday Flashbacks

Note: I’ll be back to the Senior Spokesmodel features on Monday.

In the meantime, I wanted to fill you in on a brand-new feature coming up called Friday Flashbacks!  Every Friday I’ll be posting an image from a past session.  I won’t be revealing names or notifying you that your image was featured.  So if you see yourself in the Friday Flashback shoot me a quick email and you’ll earn a complimentary 8×10 of the image as well as a gift certificate for $50 that you can use towards a future session.  You can even pass your gift certificate on to a friend (but remember I shoot primarily older kiddos, tweens, teens, seniors and young adults).  Once you spot your image, you have until the following Friday to notify me and qualify.  Friday Flashback features will be posted both here on the blog and on the Marla Laramie Photography Facebook page.  Click the LIKE button on the page to make sure you get the Facebook page feed automatically.

Friday Flashbacks start THIS Friday, 7/23 so be sure to check the Blog!!  :)

And because I hate to leave you without an image to enjoy, here’s one of my two sweet girlies.

How did you hear about Marla Laramie Photography, and what made you want to be a spokesmodel?
I heard about Marla’s work through 2010 Spokesmodel and close friend Sarah Lackey. I was immediately sold at the sight of the beautiful shots. I was informed of the opportunity, and I wanted to take part in the fun experience and acquire photos that I’d smile at every time. :)

If you had an extra $10K to spend where would you go and what would you buy?
First, I’d pay for my car to be detailed. But I’d most likely go shopping! I might even buy a plane ticket to NYC or another big city to shop in the designer stores. Shoes, dresses, purses, and a floppy hat would definitely be on my list!

Three random things people might not know about you:
I’ve been to more places than I could count.  I can watch a movie and see somewhere I’ve been.  My friends often quote me saying “Hey, hey, I’ve been there!”
Every item of clothing in my closet is organized by brand and when each piece was bought. When I hang up a shirt, it goes on the same exact hanger it was first put on and in the same spot. Can you say OCD?
I’m obsessed with playing Tiger Woods PGA Tour on PS2.

Describe one or two images that jump out at you as being favorites from the marlalaramie.com site or Facebook:
On your website, the eighth slide (trio of girl in white dress) has to be one of my favorites. I love the simplicity of each picture. It’s so simple, but it boldly expresses her beauty and a sweet nature.
