Coming Soon | A Preview

Just like clock-work, every year between January and March, I get the urge to do some spring cleaning.  Not the kind of spring cleaning most people do, certainly not [gasp] house cleaning.  No, for me its website spring cleaning!  You may have noticed that while I blog most of my sessions (eventually), I *rarely* update my main website.  Have you looked at it lately?  Its sadly out of date.  I photographed a slew of 2010 seniors but most of those happened after last year’s website overhaul.  See what a vicious little circle it is?!  I tend to only update my main site about once a year, so its definitely that time again.

I’ve been hard at work on a new website, completely overhauled, updated, reworked, and refreshed.  Its *almost* done, just putting some finishing touches on it, then I’ll unveil it in the coming weeks.  And when I do, expect some kind of giveaway  just for the heck of it (I’m not above bribery).  Oh and good news if you’re on a slower internet connection, the new site will have a mirror HTML site for you, too.  And as if that isn’t enough … an super-cool new iphone version is coming too.

I’ve made a couple of small changes to my product offerings this year, so be sure to check back for some product shots of my new, fabulous, and ever-so-modern session album.  I am seriously in *love* with it and I know you will be too.

Also, 2010 Senior clients … be watching your inbox for something extra special and ultra-top-secret.

Oh and 2011 Seniors … I’ve still got a few openings left for Senior Models.  Don’t wait too long to apply, I’ll be closing applications next month.

Here’s a little sneak-peek screen cap of the new website … enjoy!  :)

Senior Model Search | Huntsville Senior Photographer

As I mentioned previously in my latest newsletter, I have started the search for 2011 senior models.  I’ve had an amazing group of 2010 senior models!  I’ve had a blast getting to know each one of them, shooting their sessions, and working together this school year.  And I know the 2011 seniors will be every bit as fabulous.  As a current junior you might be thinking it seems a tad early to be worrying about the next school year … but it’s not!  I schedule a mini session for each senior model, in the early spring of your junior year.  This gives us plenty of time to show off your pictures to friends and classmates (who will of course then want to book their sessions with yours truly!).  Then to round things out we’ll do a regular session in the summer of your senior year (or early fall).   I’ll be accepting (2) 2011 seniors from each local area high school.

What’s in it for you, you ask?

  • spring mini session
  • mini proof book
  • personalized biz cards
  • fall session
  • $25 print credit per referral
  • 3 pics for Facebook
  • compete for cool prizes

All.  FREE.  Yep, that’s right.  FREE.

What’s the catch?  Well, you have to do a little work.  You have to show off your gorgeous pictures, hand out your personalized cards, and coerce encourage your friends and classmates to book their senior session with Marla Laramie Photography.  Yep.  That’s it.

What kind of senior makes a great senior model?  I’m looking for 2011 seniors who are enthusiastic, fun, energetic, motivated, outgoing, social, and involved.

Interested?  APPLY HERE (parent permission required).  Deadline to apply is April 30th.

Download the Senior Model info sheet.

****Reminder***** Tomorrow is the last day to get your vote in for the contest!  Also, one vote per person please.  Duplicate votes will not be counted. :)

A Contest & A Vote | Huntsville Senior Photographer

It’s that time of year, its January,  and I need something to distract me from how cold I am!  2009 was a fabulous year for my business.  I had a lot of fun and have some cool images to show for it.  :) I thought this little contest would be a fun way to highlight some of my favorite senior images from 2009 … and give them a chance to win a drop-dead-gorgeous 16×20 gallery-wrapped canvas to hang on their walls.

I had such a hard time narrowing these down!!  I had so many images that I loved for 2009.  I hope you love them as much as I do.

Ok, so here’s the deal.  Wanna win the 16×20 canvas?  All you have to do is receive the most votes for your image.  So what are the rules?  You can email friends/family and ask them to vote.  You can ask your Facebook friends.  You can call/text your friends and ask them to vote.  That’s it.  You can’t ask for votes on forums and such.  Play fair, k?

Here’s how to vote:   leave a comment with your favorite image number here on this blog post, via email (info@marlalaramie.com), on my Facebook page, or tweet @marlalaramie.  The contest ends next Tuesday, February 9th at midnight, CST.  One vote per person only, please!

Now go out and solicit those votes.  :)

Paige | 2010 Senior (pt.2)

Remember this seriously stunning senior from earlier this year?  Well this past weekend we had the second part of her senior session out at her farm.  Paige asked if we could get some pictures with her and her horse … um, YES!  I was practically giddy when I saw their huge field with gorgeous trees and behind us a pasture full of cows.  The light was *perfection* so I was thrilled.

Do you know Paige?  Are you a senior?  She’s one of my 2010 Senior Models … ask her for a card with a special offer for your senior portraits. :)

paige_1

Paige’s mom asked if I could get some shots of all three girls together … well, of course!  Their Dad better invest in a very large, very heavy bat to keep the boys away from these three stunners.  Seriously he might just need to skip the bat and invest in a very high electric fence with lots of high voltage current. ;)   Even though Mom wasn’t planning to be in the pictures, I talked her into just a couple with her girls.  Clearly gorgeous-ness runs in the family.

Pssssst … are you a 2010 junior?  Are you outgoing, friendly, involved in lots of extra curricular activities?  Wanna earn a free photo session and free prints?  Email me if you’re interested in being one of next year’s Senior Models.  I’ll be looking for up to 2 seniors each from various local schools.  Email me for details: marla@marlalaramie.com

Jared | 2010 Senior

We were supposed to have Jared’s session this week, but with all the leaves falling from the trees early we decided to push things up a week.  To fit it into the schedule, I had Jared and his mom meet me last Thursday morning.  I forgot how much I really do enjoy that early morning light.  We were in luck, although there were a lot of leaves already on the grown, there was still just enough fall color left.  We did some shots with the leaves and woods, to fit in with Jared’s love of hunting and fishing.  Afterwards we headed downtown to mix in some urban shots.  It was fun using some of my favorite downtown spots at a totally different time of day.  I love how it completely changes the look of things.  Did I mention how much I love light?  Ok, so I veered off topic a bit.  Anyway,  I love the variety we captured and I hope you do too.

New Contest | Win a $25 Gift Card to Monaco Theaters at Bridge Street

Did you know I have a Facebook fan page?  Did you know you can participate?  I know, I know, I usually just post sneak peeks and the occasional tid-bit of news.  But I’d like to start making the page more interactive.  That means I need YOU to go over and see what’s going on … make a comment or two, tell me what you’d like to see in the future, ask me photography questions, whatever!

To get things started I’m kicking it off with a new contest to get us ready for Thanksgiving.  This has been such an incredible year for my business, it has grown by leaps and bounds.  I feel very blessed to have met so many wonderful people.  I’ve also been very blessed personally with an amazing husband and two beautiful daughters that I am thankful for almost every day.  ;)

Ok.  So.  Seniors (Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors are eligible, too!), here are the contest details.  Get your camera out and take a picture (nothing fancy, just a snapshot) of someone or something you are thankful for. You can also use a photo you’ve already taken if you’d like. Either way, email it to me at marla@marlalaramie.com by November 21st.  I’ll post the best ones on FB to be voted on. The winner gets a $25 gift card to Monaco Theaters at Bridge Street!!

Liz | 2010 Senior

Last week I met Liz and her mom for her senior pictures.  They wanted to capture the beautiful fall colors before the leaves were all gone for the year.  We had a lot of fun and still managed to find a few hardy leaves that hadn’t given in to the wind yet.  Liz is an artist (and a very talented one from what I saw!) so she wanted to get some pictures of her doing what she loves … sketching.  Afterward we quickly headed downtown for some urban shots before the sun set.  I had so much fun with Liz and her mom, and we lucked out with some gorgeous weather!

Cousins | 2010 Seniors

Earlier this year I photographed both of these senior guys separately.  When it was time to schedule the second part of their sessions, we decided to combine them into one so we could get some shots of them together.  Their moms tell me that Blake and Ashly have been photographed together all their lives and are just three days apart in age.  So on Sunday I headed out to Blake’s farm and was thrilled to see they still had a lot of gorgeous fall color.  Here are a few from their session.

Emily H. | 2010 Senior (pt. 2)

Remember this stunning senior?  We did the first part of her session way back in early August.  She asked if we could split her session in two parts so that she could get some pictures with her sweet horse.  One of my favorite things is capturing seniors doing what they love, so of course I said YES.  Last Sunday I followed them out to their farm and was met with yet another beautiful piece of property to work with.  I was thrilled to see another rustic barn, too.  I think my favorite part was the old truck by the barn.  I was in photographer HEAVEN.  :)   After we did some shots of Emily with her horse and her fancy dress (love that contrast), as she was walking back to her truck to get changed I noticed a patch of amazing sunlight.  Of course I made her stop and let me get some shots there, too!  I think you’ll agree it was worth it. :)

Tara | 2010 Senior

I just love it when clients are excited about a session and bring their own ideas to incorporate.  Tara and her mom were so much fun to work with, so full of enthusiasm and willing to try whatever crazy ideas I had, too.  Often it works best when moms plans to disappear for a while during the session, as most seniors tend to relax and be themselves more when mom isn’t watching.  I’ve found however that sometimes having mom around helps keep things running smoothly if I can put them to work!  Tara’s mom made the perfect photographer’s assistant, helping me cart gear around and holding the reflector.  I even had her blocking the harsher sunlight in a few spots, which worked great.

We split Tara’s session into two so that we could get the locations we wanted with enough good light.  The first half we did downtown.  Since downtown has become a popular request by 2010 seniors this year, I’ve had to challenge myself to find different little pockets I haven’t discovered before as well as finding new ways to make all of my favorites stay fresh and creative.  I’d like to think I succeeded but you tell me!  Ha!  :D

Anyone that regularly reads this poor neglected blog knows how I love me some grunge — grungy alley ways, rusted pieces of junk, dilapidated old buildings, you name it, the grungier the better.  So you know how thrilled I was with the second part of Tara’s session … I was in grunge-heaven!  And to top it off they brought her dad’s old antique truck for some shots.  You’ll see the antique truck below but you’ll have to wait for the grunge cause I haven’t edited any of those yet. :D

This one is an early favorite of mine from Tara’s session.  I just love the way the sunlight is hitting her hair and the little bit of wind that kicked up was just the touch I was after!  Wasn’t that convenient?!

tara_phillips_10-2009_220b

My very favorite kind of light, the warm sunlight just before sunset.  And how amazing is that dress she chose?!  I swear, today’s senior girls really do such a great job putting together their outfit choices.

tara_phillips_10-2009_249b

One of my favorite things … capturing seniors doing what they love, what makes them, THEM.

tara_phillips_10-2009_385b

She’s simply stunning, isn’t she.  My hubby thinks she looks like a young Jodi Foster … I think he might be right. :)

tara_phillips_10-2009_502b

Tara decided to bring her boyfriend along for the second part of her session.  I think it was a good call, don’t you?!

tara_phillips_10-2009_416b

I love how she looks like she’s reflecting on her future (ok, so she was probably thinking “what the heck am I supposed to be looking at over there” but I like my version better).

tara_phillips_10-2009_126_bwb

Just to be different I put the color version on Facebook and the B/W version here on the blog.

Erin | 2010 Senior

Whooooops!  I just realized that while I got Erin’s senior sneak peek up on Facebook a while back, I never did blog those images.  Sorry about that Erin!  To make up for it I added an extra image that’s not already on FB. :)

I had a lot of fun with Erin’s session.  This was a girl who pretty much knows what she likes and what she doesn’t like.  I loved that!  She had the cutest little brown hat that I was so excited to see (um, seniors, hats are FUN!)  Plus she just did such a great job of putting her outfits and accessories together.  Erin asked if she could bring along her little dog, Jingle for a few shots.  Well of course I said YES.  Jingle was a little cutie but I’m going to make Erin wait to see what I got with them.  I’m evil that way. ;)   We squeezed practically every bit of daylight in that we could as we lose our sunlight so much faster this time of year.  But I love what we captured and the light was gorgeous.

One of my early favorites from Erin’s session … isn’t the light just so yummy?!

Another early favorite, with a little help from the wind.  And I’d kill to have those gorgeous, long, dark lashes.
