Coming Soon | A Preview

Just like clock-work, every year between January and March, I get the urge to do some spring cleaning.  Not the kind of spring cleaning most people do, certainly not [gasp] house cleaning.  No, for me its website spring cleaning!  You may have noticed that while I blog most of my sessions (eventually), I *rarely* update my main website.  Have you looked at it lately?  Its sadly out of date.  I photographed a slew of 2010 seniors but most of those happened after last year’s website overhaul.  See what a vicious little circle it is?!  I tend to only update my main site about once a year, so its definitely that time again.

I’ve been hard at work on a new website, completely overhauled, updated, reworked, and refreshed.  Its *almost* done, just putting some finishing touches on it, then I’ll unveil it in the coming weeks.  And when I do, expect some kind of giveaway  just for the heck of it (I’m not above bribery).  Oh and good news if you’re on a slower internet connection, the new site will have a mirror HTML site for you, too.  And as if that isn’t enough … an super-cool new iphone version is coming too.

I’ve made a couple of small changes to my product offerings this year, so be sure to check back for some product shots of my new, fabulous, and ever-so-modern session album.  I am seriously in *love* with it and I know you will be too.

Also, 2010 Senior clients … be watching your inbox for something extra special and ultra-top-secret.

Oh and 2011 Seniors … I’ve still got a few openings left for Senior Models.  Don’t wait too long to apply, I’ll be closing applications next month.

Here’s a little sneak-peek screen cap of the new website … enjoy!  :)

A Contest & A Vote | Huntsville Senior Photographer

It’s that time of year, its January,  and I need something to distract me from how cold I am!  2009 was a fabulous year for my business.  I had a lot of fun and have some cool images to show for it.  :) I thought this little contest would be a fun way to highlight some of my favorite senior images from 2009 … and give them a chance to win a drop-dead-gorgeous 16×20 gallery-wrapped canvas to hang on their walls.

I had such a hard time narrowing these down!!  I had so many images that I loved for 2009.  I hope you love them as much as I do.

Ok, so here’s the deal.  Wanna win the 16×20 canvas?  All you have to do is receive the most votes for your image.  So what are the rules?  You can email friends/family and ask them to vote.  You can ask your Facebook friends.  You can call/text your friends and ask them to vote.  That’s it.  You can’t ask for votes on forums and such.  Play fair, k?

Here’s how to vote:   leave a comment with your favorite image number here on this blog post, via email (info@marlalaramie.com), on my Facebook page, or tweet @marlalaramie.  The contest ends next Tuesday, February 9th at midnight, CST.  One vote per person only, please!

Now go out and solicit those votes.  :)

Erica | 2010 Senior (pt. 2)

I met Erica last spring when we did the first part of her Senior Model session.  It was a really overcast day and we ran out of light quickly.  This time around we had plenty of light … too much in some areas, and dappled light too.  Still, I dug deeper and found the best pockets of light I could and I think the end result is some fabulous images! Last time around we went for the urban look so this time we headed to a woodsy trail for some nature shots.  :)

Are you a Bob Jones senior who hasn’t had your senior pictures done yet?  Be sure to ask Erica for a card with a special offer!

Doesn’t she have the most stunning eyes and gorgeous smile?!

Emily L. | 2010 Senior

When I met Emily for her senior session recently I was so impressed.  This is a girl who knows what she wants to do in life and how she’s going to get there!  I remember being this age (way too long ago) and I had no idea what I wanted to study or what career path I wanted to take.  I’m in awe of these amazing seniors I’ve met this summer … so many of them know exactly where they want to go in life already.  Anyway.  Thanks for hanging out with me, Emily, I had a blast!

I love how one of my favorite locations is already beginning to look like fall!

While I LOVE the black & white version, you definitely have to pop over to Facebook and see the color version … the light hitting Emily’s beautiful blond hair is just gorgeous.

I love her reflective look here … do you suppose she’s thinking about what the future will hold? :)

Mac | 2010 Senior

Mac spends a lot of his free time over at Bridgestreet, so he thought it would make a great location for his senior pictures.  I have to agree, it was a perfect spot.  We scheduled his session for early in the morning, before the mall opened, so we wouldn’t have to deal with the usual crowds of shoppers.  Usually I love to shoot in the late afternoon, when the sun is coming down and the light is all warm and golden.  I’d forgotten how beautiful the early morning light is, too.  I’ll have to drag myself out of bed early more often!

Mac mentioned that he doesn’t usually like pictures of himself.  I said I’d take that as a challenge!  So how’d I do?!

One of my favorite shots and one of my favorite spots from this session.

mac_thompson_08-2009_429b

Never again will I doubt the beauty of morning sunlight.

Emily | 2010 Senior

Remember Chandler and his absolutely adorable girlfriend Emily from couple of posts back?  Well Emily had her own session a few days ago.  She mentioned in her senior questionnaire that she is a big Taylor Swift fan, so I knew we’d hit it off. :)   I really enjoyed getting a chance to focus on Emily this time around.  Emily is a cheerleader, and it really shows through in her friendly personality.  I’ll keep this post short tonight so I can get these posted.  Thanks for waiting so patiently, Emily!

Striking eyes, no?

emily_williams_07-2009_235b

Emily is equally beautiful with her serious look and with her lovely smile. :)

Audrey | 2010 Senior

Audrey is the latest of another fabulous senior that I’ve photographed lately.  She also happens to be adored by my two girls, who love when she comes to babysit!  It was yet another hot and steamy afternoon for Audrey’s session but she dealt with it like a total pro.  She even had to contend with the mosquitos that kept attacking her and still had a ready smile.  She’s beautiful, polished, and sweet as can be.  Did I mention what a great group of seniors I’ve had so far for 2010?!  Audrey brought along her older sister, Joni –who is also beloved by my girls and tag-team babysits with Audrey.  Joni acted as my assistant and did a fantastic job, I might add.  Thanks again to both of you, I had a blast!

I was love, love, loving the light in this spot and how the sun was hitting her hair.

audrey_mcsorley_07-2009_150b

And of course I can never resist a chance to capture a little sunflare!

audrey_02

I love the softness of this one, and her sweet, thoughtful expression.

audrey_mcsorley_07-2009_200b

A little flirty fun!

audrey_03

Does she have the most stunning eyes, or what?!

audrey_mcsorley_07-2009_435_bwb

And how could I resist a chance to get some shots with equally gorgeous big sis?!  They reminded me of my girls, who are also as different looking as day and night. :)

I’m Baaaaaaack (Day Three)

I’m baaaaack!  Did ya miss me?  Lie to me and tell me you did. ;)

I’m starting with Day Three because … well, Days One and Two were spent in the car.  Driving.  Riding.  For Way. Too. Long.

I’ve got TONS and TONS of pics to go through from our trip to South Dakota.  The girls were in HEAVEN being spoiled by their grandparents.  We had an amazing trip, did a bunch of fishing (ok, so I lounged on teh dock with a book and Sarah climbed rocks) saw loads of wildlife, visited a water park (my children are fearless, let me tell you), did all kinds of other touristy fun stuff, and even snuck in a bit of R&R while we were at it.  And, I even lugged my tripod up the mountain (ok, so I made Elliot lug it) and set it up on the self timer for a couple of shots of the four of us.

Sarah was dying to see Mt. Rushmore, so our first full day in SD we headed up there to see the four presidents’ heads carved into the mountain.  She was very impressed and beyond excited about it.  Afterwards we headed over to the town of Keystone to explore the little shops (less impressive to me than to Sarah and Anna!) and have an ice cream cone.  The girls found this hilarious cutout of the presidents heads to pose with!

Believe me, I have more silliness where that came from.   And more trip details to follow.  Eventually.

For now, here’s that silly shot.

keystone_039w

Ok, on to a few business details.  If you’ve called or emailed in the last two weeks I’m not ignoring you … I’m slowly catching up and returning calls/emails.  I promise, I’ll get through them all soon.  Also, July is jam packed with senior sessions, so stay tuned for a slew of sneak peeks this month.  And August is shaping up to be just as crazy … look for more seniors and a sprinkling of adorable kiddos.  So if you’re looking for a session in August don’t wait to schedule, I’ve only got a few openings left.  September is pretty open and October still has quite a few openings.

And yeah, its July and its HOT, but its not to early start thinking about getting on the schedule if you want holiday pics.  I recommend you schedule those sessions for September/October/November so that there’s enough time to get everything edited and back for the lab in time to mail out your holiday cards.  Last year I had two days of holiday minis, but this year I don’t think I’m going to do those unless the demand is there.  So let me know if that’s your preference.

Best Friends

For Christmas Sarah gave her two best friends a gift.  Their very own photo session for three.  They’d been asking me for a long time to do pictures with them.  And they wanted it on one of my backdrops.  It took a while to get around to it, but Memorial Day weekend they finally had their ever-so-girly, ultra-giggly, very own photo shoot.  Each girl brought around a pile of clothes, which we layed across Sarah’s bed and poured through making our choices.  Their excitement was contagious and I was as eager as they were.  I captured sass, I captured grins, I captured laughter, I captured goofiness, I captured FRIENDSHIP.  Anyone who has girls or has ever been a girl can tell you … three of them don’t always play well together.  Someone tends to get left out or ganged up on.  And these three are no exception.  But they had a fabulous time, loved the attention, and clearly they love each other.

So here’s your extended sneak peek girls!  I promise it won’t be next Christmas before the rest are done!  And yes, as requested, you will get your very own slideshow, just like my clients.  :)

Nashville Model

A couple of weekends ago I made a trip up to Nashville to  meet up with some photographer friends.  We had such a great time, and it was so fun having a big bag of lenses to choose from to shoot.  One of my fellow photogs arranged for a model for us to shoot while we were there and can I just say how adorable, not to mention super sweet and enthusiastic she was?!  Hailey was a real pro and even took the time to make sure we all got the shots we were after.

Here are the first few I’ve edited so far.  I’ve got loads more to go through so you’ll be seeing more of the ever-so-fabulous Ms. Hailey.  And stay tuned tomorrow and I’ll be posting some macro shots and some urban shots from downtown Nashville. Three full days of shooting … need I tell you how much editing I have?!

It was almost impossible to get a serious look out of Hailey, she’s got such an amazing and ready smile.

hailey_05-2009_214w

We happened upon a little carnival set up at the local shopping mall, and the lighting was just perfection.   With four photographers surrounding her, everyone thought Hailey must be someone famous!  So we let them think so. ;)

hailey_05-2009_331w

Is this not the coolest spot for a photo shoot?  We stayed at the ultra-trendy and modern aLoft hotel in Franklin.  As soon as we walked in the door we knew it was perfect for some photos.

A little wide-angle play to show off the surroundings.

Wide Angle Fun

I recently rented a super-fun wide angle lens, the 16-35L.  I’ve been dying to try out something wide and see what kind of fun distotion I could get.  I’ve got a bunch that I took a up in Nashville recently with some photographer friends of mine, but you might know I haven’t edited any yet!  I did edit these few that I took of Anna.  Not the greatest shots, but still kinda fun to see what a wide angle can do.  Check out that head!

Also, thanks to all that participated here and on Facebook as part of my Starbucks gift card giveaway.  I’ll go through all of them and randomly draw a winner, and post the results tomorrow.
