Happy Birthday, Beautiful Girl

Four years ago today, our second child was born.  I always knew I’d love her, but I had no idea just how much.  I can’t even imagine our life without her anymore.  Sweet Anna, you make us laugh every day.  You are such a joy to be around, your enthusiasm for life and everything in it is hard to resist.  I love to hear you laugh … its the biggest reason why I love to tickle you.  At four your favorite things are so easy to see.  You love the computer (almost as much as Mommy), you could jump on the trampoline for hours, and ride your bike all day.  You love silly jokes (How do you make a tissue dance?  You put a little boogie in it.).  You dance even when there is no music to hear … or you just make your own.  You sing in bed at night, you sing in the car, you sing in the grocery store (Jingle Bells in February anyone?).  I love how you’re making friends and how much you enjoy them.  You’re so even tempered most of the time … when you do lose your temper … LOOK OUT!  Truth be told, I love every. single. thing. about you.  Happy birthday sweet girl.

Last week was picture day at dance class.  Naturally I had to take some of my own later at home.

My Three Favorite People on Earth

My three favorite people on earth are my husband and my two girls (sorry Mom, you, Dad, and Chad come in right behind them!).  Of course I take tons and tons of photos of the girls … my forever guinea pigs.  Rarely does Elliot let me photograph him.  But he’ll do it for his girls.  He’s a big giant, marshmallow, softie for those two.

Last year our neighborhood had its first annual Daddy Daughter Sweetheart Dance.  They had it at our neighborhood clubhouse, with sweets, lots of music and dancing, and a flower and a balloon for each girl to take home.  The girls and I somehow convinced Elliot that he should take them, and they had so much fun they were excited to do it again this year.  In fact, Anna still talks about last year’s dance and was so excited about this year’s dance that she was in tears Thursday night because she had to wait TWO MORE WHOLE DAYS.

I feel so lucky to have a husband who chooses to be so involved in his girls’ lives.  They couldn’t ask for a better dad.  And I just love that one day they will be able to look back at all the memories he made time to create with them.

And a flashback from last year …

As promised to my mom and my brother, I’m finally making my Valentine’s Day post.  I’ve been seriously nagged to get these photos up, ASAP! :)

I’ll come back tomorrow or Monday and post our Valentine’s Day card, plus a few more photos of my girls.

Flower Power

Pardon me for the silly title, I’m afraid my mind was drawing a blank for clever titles!  Ok, ok, so I’m not that great at clever titles anyway.  Surely you’re used to that by now. :)

I wanted to announce a couple of things business things before we get to the photos (don’t be peeking ahead now).

First, the spring calendar is open and is already filling up quickly.  So if you’re looking for portraits in March, April, or May, don’t wait too long to schedule.

Second, if you have a baby aged 3 months to 9 months, be sure to check back here in the next several days.  I have some new ideas I want to try with this age group and need some little subjects to try them out on.  These will be done as one-hour mini sessions, one child only (well unless we’re talking twins here).  You’ll get a few freebies as a thank you.  I only need a few babies, so there will be a limited number of spots.

And third, if you’re a junior, its almost time to start thinking about your senior portraits.  I know a lot of you like to have your photos taken in the summer when the weather is warm.  If that’s the case, I recommend you get on the schedule sooner rather than later so you don’t miss out on the date you want!  Also, I’m beginning my search for 2010 senior reps, so if you’re fun, outgoing, energetic, and willing to talk up my business … shoot me an email telling me about yourself.  And you get the chance to earn cool stuff!

There.  Business Stuff out of the way.  On to the pictures.  You were patient and waited, right? ;)

Talk, Talk, Talk

My sweet Anna is truly part of the Early family from my mom’s side.  She LOVES to talk.  She talks, and talks, and talks, and talks, and … well, you get the point.  And those of you that know me well, understand this is a trait that has been passed through multiple generations. ;)

She loves to talk on play phones, real phones, any phone.  She’ll have long conversations on her play phone with her friends from preschool, her sister at school, her daddy at work, or me —standing three feet away.  And if Anna has no one in particular to talk to, that’s ok, she’ll just make someone up.

So when I wanted to work some more on lighting, I figured my old pink cell phone was the perfect accessory!  Whatcha think?  Cute or what?!

And a close-up … just cause. :)

P.S.  There ya go, Mom, your other little granddaughter.  :)

One More for Auntie Katie

I know, I know … I already posted sneak peeks for Katie and her family … both from part one and part two of her senior session.  If you missed them, you can see them here and here.  So why am I posting more?  Because I finished editing the rest of her session recently and I just had to share one more.  Katie’s a new aunt … and I caught a couple of snaps of her with the baby.  This is a family that loves their horses … and of course they start them young! ;)

P.S. I promise, we had multiple grown-ups right out of the frame to prevent any accidents.

New Years’ Reflections

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and were able to get in lots of fun, family, and yummy food.  There’s nothing more magical to me that seeing Christmas through my childrens’ eyes and this year was no different.  For the first time, Stewart the Elf came to visit us.  The girls loved the challenge of trying to find where he’d moved to each morning, and seeing what mischief he’d gotten into during the night.  This was the first year Anna was totally and completely into Christmas.  She was thrilled with the wooden grocery market stand that Santa brought.  And Sarah has been playing Hannah Montana endlessly on her new Nintendo DS.

I have to say I really have enjoyed my time off.  I love being a photographer and have been blessed with such wonderful clients … but these last two weeks have given me a chance to recharge and relax.  I even managed to catch up on all 8 episodes of Grey’s Anatomy I had on the DVR!!  :D

Oh and guess what … I didn’t take ONE SINGLE PHOTOGRAPH over the holidays. I know, my family is still in shock, too.  So many times I miss being a part of the moment because I am so busy trying to capture the moment.  So this year I left the camera put away and just soaked it all up.

I hope your holidays were as blessed as mine were.

And so as not to leave you with just a bunch of words to read … a few shots of my stinkers.  I recently purchased some lighting equipment and am working on learning how to use it.  These are a couple of my test shots from just before Christmas.  So far I am in LOVE!

P.S.  Check back tomorrow for the first in a series of flash-back posts featuring several of my very first clients.

Have a Blessed Christmas!

Its Christmas Eve, and as I sit here reflecting on my life, I realize how very blessed I am.  I have a family I love, who loves me back.  We’re fortunate to be able to spend time together this Christmas and enjoy each other’s company.  We have family we can’t be with this year, and to them I send out our love and our hopes to see each other soon … but know that you are in our thoughts and hearts.

I’m taking some time off to spend with family, so any business-related emails or phone calls will be returned as of January 5th.

Merry Christmas and may you have a blessed New Year too!

Bare Feet? or BEAR Feet?

October and November are the busy season for most portrait photographers, and this year has kept me on my toes to say the least.  I’ve been so crazy-busy lately that I am way behind in blogging about my own munchkins.  And believe me, I’ve been hearing about it from my mom, my husband, and even my brother!!  I’m almost embarssed to admit this series of photos I took back in … um … JULY.  I am so far behind in editing my personal photos its just sad.

Anyway.  The story that goes along with these photos is too cute not to pass on.  Anna and I were getting ready to go somewhere or other one day, and I was hurrying her along to finish getting dressed.  She came in and our conversation went something like this:

Anna:  Mommy, can I wear my bare feet?

Me:  No, sweetie, you can’t go barefoot you have to wear shoes.

A few minutes later …

Anna:  Mommy, please can I wear my bare feet?

Me:  Anna, you have to wear shoes.  If you go barefoot you might step on something and hurt your foot.

Anna finally gets her shoes on, we do our errands, and I’ve forgotte all about the conversation.  Later we get home and she asks me:

Anna: Mommy, now can I wear my bare feet?

Me: Sure sweetie, you can take your shoes off and go barefoot now.

A few minutes later she comes running in with her BEAR SLIPPERS on …

Anna:  See my bear feet mommy?  I LOVE my bear feet!

And needless to say a photo was called for …

Single Parents: I Stand in Awe

Seriously.  The title says it all.  I have no idea how single parents do this every day.  Elliot doesn’t travel a whole lot, but he has been gone all this week.  Normally it wouldn’t be that big of a deal.  But Sarah has been sick since last Thursday and doesn’t show any signs of getting better.  She’s had a high fever for almost a week now.  Motrin brings it down when it gets too high, but then it spikes up in the afternoon/evenings.  At first our pediatrician thought this was part of that four-day crud that’s going around (she has very similar symptoms), but if that was the case the fever should be getting better by now and its not.  She started antibiotics this morning so hopefully she can kick whatever this is.  And she has a nasty, congested cough (its not in her chest, no pneumonia or bronchitis) and feels really rotten.  She’s missed school since last Friday and she’s still got a fever so she won’t be going back tomorrow either.

And if that’s not enough Anna started out with two small little bumps between her neck and shoulder that looked like something bit her.  I first noticed it last Thursday and by the weekend it looked infected, so she got to visit the doctor, too.  She has impetigo and needed antibiotics.  When it rains, it pours.

All of that to say I have the utmost respect for single parents who have to handle all of this by themselves.  And it reminds me to thank my husband for all that he does.  :)

My Little Computer Geek

A few months ago Anna discovered the computer.  Now I can’t get her off it.  Seriously.  She would play computer ALL DAY if I let her.  Her favorites are playhousedisney.com, nickjr.com, and pollypocket.com.  I really need to find her some educational games to play so at least she’s being semi-productive.  We used to have some games for when Sarah was this age, but none of them play right on our Macs.  Hm.  Santa may need to bring some this year.  :)   Sarah has always loved the computer too, but not to the extent Anna does.  We’ve found that taking away her computer privelage as a consequence is a great motivator!
