Jake | 2010 Senior

I’m getting a little behind in my blogging, so consider this a bit of catch up. I’ve already posted these on Facebook but the blog is lagging a bit behind! I’ve got several more to blog so keep checking in.  They’re already on FB. ;)

Jake is the latest 2010 senior, and aside from playing football he does a pretty amazing job with the guitar, too. I was excited to see he brought it along for some shots and knew the RR tracks and the train depot would be the perfect location to showcase him and his guitar. Jake seemed so relaxed in front of the camera, and his smile was so natural … it made my job all the easier!

One of my favorites of the session … love that serious expression.

Another favorite!

It feels awkward to stand and pose with a guitar so I had Jake play a bit.  He’s quite talented!

Train, guitar, sunflare, good-looking guy … perfect combination for a photograph. :)

Another favorite spot of mine, yet another grungy alley.

And one from the park, just for mom, with a smile included at no extra charge. ;)

A Poll | Which Do You Prefer?

Lately I’ve been playing around with a new way of doing client slideshows, specifically for senior sessions.  This new app does slideshows in a completley different way that I think is really fun.  However the images display smaller and I’m not as happy with the quality/sharpness of the images.  So I thought I’d get some opinions.  I’ve just put together a senior slideshow in both applications.  So take a look, tell me which you prefer and why.

Emily | 19 Days

I met Robin and her wonderful family back in February of last year for her little boy’s 18 month pictures, and again for his 2 year session last summer.  I was beyond thrilled when she contacted me earlier this year to tell me she would soon have a newborn little girl for me to photograph.  I have loved every minute of working with this warm, friendly family, and this new little addition did not disappoint!   Due to her dealing with jaunice in her early days and then me being away on vacation we had to postpone little Em’s session … but I have to say she was worth the wait. :)   And be sure to check back in a few weeks for big brother’s three year pics.  I can’t wait to see how he’s grown.  There’s just nothing better than watching my young clients grow.

This little sweetie was so easy to pose, she just slept right through it. :)

Nothing better than daddy/daughter love.

It took a little doing, but check out that eye contact!  And doesn’t she has the most beautiful big blue eyes?!

Client Perspective: Part Three

I bet you thought I’d forgotten all about these client perspective posts, huh?  Well, I didn’t.

OK, so I did.  But I remembered. :)

This sweet family is one of my favorites, and I’ve been lucky enough to photograph them more than once now.  Each time their love and affection for each other comes shining through.  These adorable kiddos never fail to make me laugh and smile.  They’re little fun magnets and their joy is so contagious!

In their mama’s own words:

Three favorite images?!  I can’t pick.  Okay, Okay.
I love the picture of Jamie with his tongue sticking out.   He was two when these pictures were taken and was beginning to lose all of his sweet babyness.  The tongue thing was pretty much Jamie’s permanent facial expression for his first year or two of life.  It was at times adorable, worrisome (is this kid going to look like this at Prom?!), and pretty funny during his really-fat baby phase.  We can’t believe you captured it for us!

We also can’t resist the ones of Merritt jumping up in the air.  This kid has so much energy and enthusiasm and spends most of her time listening to us say “Merritt, calm down!”  This time she didn’t have to!

And we have to say “Kudos to Marla” for getting the first (and still only) good shot of BOTH Merritt and Jamie together.  We’ve gone through rolls of film (or memory chips) trying to get them to smile together, or even just look pleasant, without someone in a headlock (usually Jamie) or someone being bitten (usually Merritt!).  Still not sure how you did it!

And just to prove it wasn’t a fluke, and that they do love each other, here are a couple from their holiday session back in November.  Don’t they just make you melt?! :)

Have a Blessed Christmas!

Its Christmas Eve, and as I sit here reflecting on my life, I realize how very blessed I am.  I have a family I love, who loves me back.  We’re fortunate to be able to spend time together this Christmas and enjoy each other’s company.  We have family we can’t be with this year, and to them I send out our love and our hopes to see each other soon … but know that you are in our thoughts and hearts.

I’m taking some time off to spend with family, so any business-related emails or phone calls will be returned as of January 5th.

Merry Christmas and may you have a blessed New Year too!

Fall Color … Just Under the Wire

This weekend I had one last fall session to take advantage of the beautiful color in the mountains.  This family really wanted to have gorgeous fall foliage as part of their family photos.  We all had our fingers (and our toes) crossed when it rained towards the end of the week.  And while a lot of the leaves had already dropped, there was still enough color to make for a stunning backdrop.  I know I say this every time, but this family was so nice and such fun to be with.  I really am so lucky to find such wonderful clients!  Both of these kids were adorable (ok, so the 12 year old might take exception to the word adorable… how about handsome for him?), well-mannered, and super sweet.

Enjoy your preview, Susan, and thanks for making the trek with me on Saturday.

This was one of the last images of the day, before the park official closed down for the day.  Look how warm and golden the light was … my favorite kind.  This is one of my favorites from the day.

Check out these two hams!  They thought it was hilarious when I told them to look at each other. :)

Just try to tell me this one isn’t going to be a heart-breaker as he grows up!

This is what I got when I told her to give me some sass … I think she’s got it figured out!

Spotlight: Coffee Table Books

Its time for a new product, don’tcha think?  I’ve had coffee table books available for some time, but I’ve never really marketed them much.  I think for something to have sales appeal you need to be able to SEE it before buying it.  I believe strongly in having samples so that clients can see what my product offerings look like.  And I’ve not had a coffee table book sample available to show … until now.  I filled my sample full of client images, and it is GORGEOUS.  Can I just say, I WANT ONE for myself, full of images of my own kids. :)

My sample is a 10×10 book with a canvas image cover, 20 pages.  The pages are super thick and sturdy.  The color is breathtaking.  I love how I can create full, double-page spreads.  Did I mention that I WANT ONE for myself?!

If you want one you’re welcome to order one with a new session or with a previous session’s images.  :)

More Mini Sneak Peeks

Last year this family was among my first clients while I was building up my portfolio.  I enjoyed them then and I enjoyed them every bit as much this time around.  I was thrilled when they wanted to participate in my holiday mini sessions this year.  This is one of the sweetest families I’ve worked with ever!  Their kiddos are so adorable and such fun to photograph.  I had jelly beans for bribery and it worked like a charm. :)

Check out what a great job Mom did coordinating their outfits!  Love the blue and pink together.

I took this one at the beginning of the session.  I couldn’t resist how pretty the sunlight was shining in her hair.

Check out those eyes … this little guy is going to be a heartbreaker some day … bet on it!

Concentration

Anna reminds me so much of my brother, Chad.  When I look back at photos of him as a little boy, I see how much she looks like him.  She has a lot of his personality traits, too.  She’s easy going, but when she gets riled up … LOOK OUT!  But the one thing that really reminds me of him is this little mannerism.  When she is thinking hard or really concentrating, she sticks her tongue out part way.  She doesn’t even realize she’s doing it most of the time.  Chad has always done the same thing!!  Look at how hard she’s concentrating on that Leapster game … and check out that little tongue sticking out. :)   So sweet.

THINK … THINK … THINK …

Hannah Montana and Her Sister Miley

My girls LOVE Halloween.  I mean they really LOVE it.  They talk about their costumes for weeks months before hand, going back and forth as to what they want to be.  First Sarah wanted to be a hippie … and she doesn’t really even know what one is!  For months Anna was SURE she wanted to be Snow White … I was all for that since we already have a Snow White dress, and its in good condition.  Then Sarah decided she just had to be Hannah Montana.  Anna decided she would be a lady bug (they were both lady bugs two years ago!).  Then Anna was back to wanting to be Snow White.  Then I went and priced Hannah Montana costumes and went into sticker shock.  All of the ones I found were way over-priced and not good quality either.  In the end I decided we’d make our own Hannah Montana look, so Anna and I went shopping.  Naturally Anna decided she just had to be Hanna Montana, too.

So we found funky jeans, rocker shirts, chunky black boots, loads of bangle braclets, bright headbands, and threw in some glitter makeup, purple eye shadow, and some lipstick.  I even found Sarah a blonde Hannah wig to wear.  She decided she would be Miley instead so she wouldn’t need the wig!!  :)   They are wild about the final result and got to wear their outfits this weekend for the fall festival we attended.  And we get to do it all over again for Halloween!

Welcome to the New Blog!!

Welcome!  I’m so glad you made it over to my new blog home.  I hope you love it as much as I do.  So go ahead, peek around, see what’s here.  You’ll notice there’s a new photo of me at the top (keeps the mice away) … courtesy of my fabulous husband.  And did you see the photos at the very top … its a cool spot for me to feature various client images as well as images of my own kiddos.

Don’t forget to check out the links at the top.  There’s a link to my main web site (eventually that site will get updated, too, I know it needs it!).  There’s a link to CATEGORIES … future posts will get tagged and categorized so that they are more searchable.  So say you want to find all posts with HS Seniors, you’ll click on that cateory and VOILA!

There’s a NEWS list on the menu too.  You’ll find my Mini Sessions flyer there to download.  Speaking of which, they are half full, so don’t wait too long to book!

There’s also a link to contact me, via email … so don’t be shy!

I was able to bring over all of the posts from the old blog, so everything should be here.  I did find that on some of them the comments did not all get transferred over.  Sorry about that!

And the main thing I wanted to point out … see the images in the posts?  YEAH … THEY’RE HUGE!

Be sure to leave a comment and tell me what you think of the new blog!!

Later this afternoon I will come back to announce the winner of the Starbucks gift card!!!  So you’ve still got a little more time to throw your name in.

Also, look for a new post featuring a Q&A with one of my fabulous HS Senior clients.  I’ll post that a bit later today as well.

JUMP!

Earlier this year Elliot bought the girls a trampoline for the backyard. I admit, I was not too thrilled at first. I’m a mom … I worry. But I must admit, I’ve been won over. How can I not be, just look at the joy in their faces and smiles. They jump on the trampoline almost every day, except when its rained. I love their silly grins when the jump, the games they’ve invented, leaps and rolls they do, the way their hair flies all around as they bounce. Pure. Joy.

Back to Tampa

We’re going back to Tampa. No, not to live! Just a visit. But its the first visit since we moved away almost 2.5 years ago. I’m so excited to see family and friends!!

Some of you may remember the gorgeous little girl below. She was one of my first portfolio building experiences and this is still one of my all-time favorite shots. And her mom and dad have asked to book a session while I’m down their way. YAY! I can’t wait to photograph her and her sister (who is equally gorgeous).

There’s a good chance I may have time to do one additional session while I’m in Tampa (the week of October 5th). If you’re interested, email me at info@marlalaramie.com.
