Almost five years ago we packed up and moved from Tampa, Florida to Huntsville (Madison), Alabama. When we left we said good-bye to really good friends, and more importantly, family. Anna doesn’t remember so much (she was only a year old) but Sarah spent so much time with her twin cousins that leaving was heartbreaking. We try to get together in Pensacola at least once a year and I’m amazed at how quickly Sarah and the boys are able to reconnect. A couple of years ago we met up one summer and this time we added more cousins (including a girl cousin, heaven!!). As luck would have it we were all able to make it to Pensacola just after Christmas. My girls are still talking about how much fun they had with all their cousins. I love that they get along so well and were able to spend time. They don’t know they’re making memories. I love that we were able to celebrate Russ and Matt’s 9th birthday with them. I love that Anna was so excited to “play with that girl cousin”. I love that Sarah, Anna, and Jordyn formed their very first “Girl’s Club” and had secret meetings in the closet. And I love that Sarah wanted to spend time with her boy cousins, too. I found it hilarious that at one point she was “kicked out of the Girl’s Club,” and when I asked why Anna informed it it was because “she wouldn’t follow the rules.” When I asked her what rules she broke, Anna replied “I dunno.” I later found out the reason was because Sarah “got tired of all the meetings” and wanted to play with the boys, too.

I was so excited when Valerie asked if we could do her full session at Tate Farms. I hadn’t been there in a few years and I was amazed at how much has been added. The staff and ownership is so friendly and helpful, which made things go so smoothly (despite the RAIN!!). We had to duck for cover under some of the buildings when the rain started, but we still had plenty of light in several spots to work with. Luckily the rain didn’t last too long and we were able to continue shooting where we wanted. Sometimes the sky and light right after a rain/storm can be so beautiful and interesting, and this time did not disappoint. We ran out of light at the end, so we met again the following week for a quick finish … this time with a gorgeous sunset. And can I mention what an amazing sport Valerie’s mom is? When I mentioned bringing my girls with me for that quick finish-up session, she graciously offered to watch them for me. And she even treated them to a pumpkin and a snack. Yep, the girls were in awe of Ms. Sonia. P.S. Are you a senior still needing pictures? Are you a junior ready to get on the schedule for next year? If you know Valerie be sure to ask her for a card with a special offer, and mention her name when you book.
show 1 comment Remember Ashley? She’s one of this year’s Senior Spokesmodels, from Buckhorn HS. For Ashley’s full session we met at her dad’s farm so we could do pictures with her horses. I was thrilled that we were able to get a few shots with Ashley’s momma horse and her baby. And I was so impressed with how good Ashley is with her horses, how calm they are and how they respond to her. Her dad’s farm was a gorgeous location for pictures and he was great at helping with whatever we needed! P.S. Are you a senior still needing pictures? Are you a junior ready to get on the schedule for next year? If you know Ashley be sure to ask her for a card with a special offer, and mention her name when you book.
show 1 comment Remember Jasmin? She’s one of this year’s Senior Spokesmodels, from Hazel Green HS. For Jasmin’s full session we drove out to her cousin’s farm so we could do pictures with her horses. Is this not the most stunning horse you’ve ever seen?! I love, love, love it when we can bring what seniors love most into their pictures. And I think its plain for anyone to see how much Jasmin loves horses. P.S. Are you a senior still needing pictures? Are you a junior ready to get on the schedule for next year? If you know Jasmin be sure to ask her for a card with a special offer, and mention her name when you book.
no comments Remember Kyla? She’s one of this year’s Senior Spokesmodels, from Westminster Christian. Kyla is as sweet as she is beautiful and I’ve really enjoyed working with her! When we did her full session she requested that we do some in front of Harrison Brother’s Hardware, in downtown Huntsville because its a place that has special meaning to her family. I think it turned out to be a fabulous spot! Kyla also asked if we could get a few shots of her and her older brother … of course I said YES. P.S. Are you a senior still needing pictures? Are you a junior ready to get on the schedule for next year? If you know Kyla be sure to ask her for a card with a special offer, and mention her name when you book.
no comments Last year I participated in an auction benefit for The Epilepsy Foundation of Alabama. I happily donated a session plus an 11×14 print to the silent auction for this very worthy cause. When the winner contacted me recently to set up the session, we did some brainstorming as to what kind of a session would work best. When she told me she thought it might be perfect for her about-to-be-married son and daughter-in-law-to-be … I had to agree. Mike & Jen live in Seattle and had been together for six years before getting married earlier this month. They had a super-fun pirate-themed wedding back in Seattle, and were in Alabama for a short visit with Mike’s family afterward. We met at Mike’s parents’ house and decided that the field behind their house would be the perfect location for photos, and would really capture their time in Alabama. Did I mention they are city people? Oh and as a bonus … I had an awesome six-year old helper that was great at reflector holding duty and even insisted on helping me move my step ladder. You were awesome Emma! ![]()
no comments Remember Faith? She’s the second of this year’s Senior Spokesmodels, from Sparkman HS. I have had a blast working with Faith! She has such personality and is a natural to pose. And since she’s studying photography its fun to talk a little shop, too. P.S. Are you a senior still needing pictures? Are you a junior ready to get on the schedule for next year? If you know Faith be sure to ask her for a card with a special offer, and mention her name when you book.
show 1 comment Remember Hannah? She’s one of this year’s Senior Spokesmodels, from Sparkman HS. And does she have the most amazing eyes, or what?! What I loved about Hannah’s senior session was that both her mom and her dad came along. I almost never get dads that show up to the session so it was fun for a change! And while most moms are great at spotting a hair out of place or a shirt that needs fixing … Hannah’s dad had them all beat. P.S. Are you a senior still needing pictures? Are you a junior ready to get on the schedule for next year? If you know Hannah be sure to ask her for a card with a special offer, and mention her name when you book.
no comments Remember Jessica? She’s one of this year’s Senior Spokesmodels, from Bob Jones. Jessica had one request for her senior session … water pictures. I knew we would have a ton of fun with that idea, and I was right. Imagine how thrilled I was when she pulled out her jaw-droppingly gorgeous prom dress and said that was what she wanted to wear in the water. I must confess, I’ve always wanted to do a trash the (prom) dress style session! I may possibly have gotten a little giddy, but you can’t prove a thing. P.S. Are you a senior still needing pictures? Are you a junior ready to get on the schedule for next year? If you know Jessica be sure to ask her for a card with a special offer, and mention her name when you book.
show 1 comment My senior session with Caitlin was so much fun! During the first part of our session, Caitlin had a mishap with a shoe and a toe nail (I’ll let her tell you the story!) and we had to postpone the rest of the session. Then the little rain that we’ve gotten recently messed up our efforts to schedule the second part. Finally we lucked out, despite a day that started out with pouring rain, the storm moved out just in time for our session. And it was even more fun when her older sister came along for the second part (and of course I’ll make them wait to see the pics of them together, cause I’m evil that way). We found some fun spots for pictures and squeezed every last drop of light out of the day, then made our own light with their car lights. Gorgeous, isn’t she?!
show 2 comments I had lots of fun with Hallie’s senior session! She and her mom found us some awesome little spots to shoot when we did our pre-session consultation (otherwise known as the session where I showed up without my camera?!!). When we finally got together for the real session (where I actually DID bring my camera) I was thrilled with what we captured. Hallie did a great job choosing her outfits and was so much fun to photograph.
no comments One more apology, so sorry I’m behind on blog sneak previews! I’m finally getting caught up now so please bear with me. For her senior session, I met up with Chassie, her boyfriend, and her mom. Chassie had some great ideas and I was so excited to try out some new locations for a change, too. My favorite so far! I just love gorgeous lighting and a beautiful senior to photograph.
I added the B/W version here, you can see the color version on Facebook.
Such a sweet couple! I hope you had a wonderful anniversary after your session.
show 3 comments So you probably thought I forgot all about the results of the Favorite 2011 Senior Spokesmodel Contest. Um, well, actually, yes I did. Sorry! Between school starting and getting a new puppy, life got a little crazy (excuses, I know!) and it completely slipped my mind. Please forgive me girls, for making you wait so long for the results. Let me take a minute to thank everyone who voted, it was a huge success!! Between Facebook votes, blog votes, and email votes, the response was fantastic. The voting was close, but there has to be just one winner. So congratulations to Kei, #10!! And I drew a random name from the voters and the Starbucks gift card goes to JENNW. Jenn, email me (marla@marlalaramie.com) your mailing address and I’ll get it in the mail to you in the next few days.
show 3 comments Welcome to Friday Flashbacks, a brand new feature on the blog. What the heck are Friday Flashbacks? To recap: Every Friday I’ll be posting an image from a past session. I won’t be revealing names or notifying you that your image was featured. These posts will be clearly marked with Friday Flashbacks in the title so as not to confuse them with regular blog postings. So if you see yourself in the Friday Flashback feature shoot me a quick email and you’ll earn a complimentary 8×10 of the image as well as a gift certificate for $50 that you can use towards a future session. You can even pass your gift certificate on to a friend (but remember I shoot primarily older kiddos, tweens, teens, seniors and young adults). Once you spot your image, you have until the following Friday at midnight to notify me and qualify. Friday Flashback features will be posted both here on the blog and on the Marla Laramie Photography Facebook page. Click the LIKE button on the page to make sure you get the Facebook page feed automatically. So what happens if I don’t post a Friday Flashback? The first person to email me and (nicely!) remind me I’ve forgotten, earns a $50 gift certificate good towards a session. Sorry but this one can’t be passed on to a friend, and is only good for 30 days. Also you can only earn this gift certificate once in 2010. Now for a few rules. You can only redeem one certificate per session. You have one year from the time the Friday Flashback feature appears on the Blog to use it, and it can only be used for a session with kids ages 7 to young adult (with the exception being a past client). Certificates have no cash value and may not be traded or sold. One of my favorite shots from Emily’s session.
